The Italian Chapel, Lamb Holm, Orkney Islands
The Italian Chapel was built during World War II by Italian prisoners of war captured in North Africa who were housed on the previously uninhabited island of Lamb Holm while they constructed the Churchill Barriers - defences to protect the navy harbour at Scapa Flow.
The chapel is constructed from two Nissen huts - pre-fabricated steel structures used for military purposes.
